Carrie Lovitt

Name: Carrie Lovitt
Position: Research Fellow
Research Area: Breast Cancer
Qualifications: BSc (Hons), PhD

Biography: Carrie obtained her Bachelor of Science with Honours from Monash University in 2007. In 2008, she joined the Discovery Biology laboratory as a Research Assistant, working in the malaria group.  She completed her Doctor of Philosophy with Discovery Biology in the field of breast cancer, specifically designing 3D cell culture models. Her degree conferred in March 2014. Following her PhD, Carrie was employed as a Research Fellow working on a drug discovery research project studying breast and pancreatic cancer. In July 2016, Carrie joined the Cancer Therapeutics CRC team, a joint commercial academic partnership. Carrie’s cancer research involves the development of 2D and 3D in vitro cell culture models suitable for HTS/HCS and employing these cancer cell culture models in early stage drug discovery screening programs. In addition, she conducts in-depth evaluation of potential anti-cancer agents and interrogates chemotherapeutic drug resistance mechanisms.
