Biography: Myllena completed her Master of Science (2010) in Public Health and PhD (2015) in Parasite Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ / Brazil). Between 2003 and 2010, she was part of the Laboratory of Immunology and Parasitology at the Aggeu Magalhães Centre of Fiocruz, led by Dr. Yara de Miranda Gomes. During this time, she worked with recombinant antigens as markers of the evolution of the chronic forms of Chagas’ disease. She then joined the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Endemic diseases with Dr. Constança Britto in 2010, and continued her research on Chagas’ Disease, focused on investigating molecular targets in order to genotype the Trypanosoma cruzi. She has acquired expertise in immunological and biochemistry techniques and cultivation of parasites as well as molecular biology. She joined Discovery Biology with Professor Vicky Avery in March 2018 as a member of the Trypanosome Drug Discovery Programme.
