Discovery Biology extends MMV agreement

Discovery Biology has been awarded $300,000 by not-for-profit Swiss foundation Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), to continue its focus on identifying new compounds active against the malaria parasite. In particular, the research is focussed on the sexual stage of the life cycle, the gametocytes. The full article can be found on the Griffith University Website.

Discovery Biology contributes to Griffith’s Nature ranking

Griffith University is ranked seventh in Australia and 30th in the Asia-Pacific region in the prestigious Nature Publishing Index 2010, which was released today. The paper; Chemical Genetics of Plasmodium falciparum. Nature. May 20, 2010: 465 (7296), pp. 311-315, which was co-authored by Vicky Avery and Sandra Duffy from Discovery Biology, was one of six articles published by Griffith researchers in Nature. Assoc. Prof. Avery to present at AntiMal in London

Head of Discovery Biology, Vicky Avery will be presenting a seminar as part of the AntiMal Conference in London on the 15th of March. Entitled, ‘Malarial Screening on a Global Scale: What is it Likely to Impact?’, the seminar will discuss the rapid expansion of malarial screening and technology over the last decade and how this expansion is likely to impact on malaria treatment in the future. BBQ for Prostate Cancer

Discovery Biology will host a BBQ to raise awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). The BBQ will be held on Friday the 24th of September from 12-6pm in the courtyard of N75 (Eskitis Building 2) on the Nathan Campus. There will be food, drinks and raffles, with all proceeds going to the PCFA.
